The witty aphorisms by Coco Capitán were presented to viewers on two pieces at the fashion show for Gucci's 2017-18 Fall/Winter womenswear collection. When the guests at Gucci's fashion show in Italy entered the showgrounds, they encountered capitán's written work on the wall, and they also saw the artist's handwriting in person on the invitation they received.
Alessandro Michele and Capitán's collaboration for the Autumn/Winter season resulted in the emergence of many different pieces that reflected the artist's sense of humor. Tote backpacks, belt bags, sweatshirts, T-shirts, hoodies, knitted pieces and jackets in different colors were used by Capitán as a canvas and embroidered with the artist's handwritten messages. Many of the pieces, all unisex, also carry Gucci's green-red-green mesh lines and a gold GG motif that is interlocking.
The collection will meet fashion lovers at Gucci.com and select Gucci stores at the end of July. Gucci is adding to its ongoing Art Wall project to celebrate. Capitán's work will adorn the 760-square-foot wall on Lafayette Street in New York city and a large wall in Largo la Foppa in Milan's bustling pedestrian district, Corso Garibaldi. The first wall will say "What are we going to do with this whole future", while the second wall will say, "Common sense unfortunately does not exist in everyone".
